An alternative to the Nebula and Parillaud-classes, the Alastor-class utilizes the same primary hull and engineering configuration. With the same integrated systems and navigational deflector setup as the Parillaud-class cruisers, the Alastor-class features a heavy weapons pod at the price of a reduced scientific capacity. The trade-off is effective but costly; each ship of the Alastor-class costs 22% more than a comparable Parillaud or Nebula-class ship, which makes them harder to procure during times of war. There are currently six ships in this class in Starfleet service; five more are on order but have been delayed.
The U.S.S. Anaximander (NCC-74833) is the fourth ship in this class to be completed and is currently in service with the Ninth Fleet.
